The Perecman Firm, Supports Autism Awareness Month

April 2nd is World Autism Day, a United Nations’ designated day of observance which kicks off an entire month dedicated to spreading awareness, promoting education, and gathering support for Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Perecman Firm, is proud to continue our support for these great initiatives, and help spread the word!

World Autism Awareness Day / World Autism Month

April 2, 2019 marks the 12th annual World Autism Awareness Day. On this day, individuals, businesses, and communities across the globe team up to turn hundreds of thousands of different homes, buildings, and notable / historical sites into light blue landmarks as a means of expressing solidarity and support for children, adults, and families living with autism. World Autism Awareness Day also kick-starts World Autism Month – an entire month-long campaign that brings people across the globe together to improve global understanding and acceptance of autism. Organized in part by Autism Speaks, World Autism Month provides a fantastic opportunity for everyone to learn more about what autism is, screening and diagnosis, and treatments and resources. If you’d like to get involved to show your support for World Autism Awareness Day and World Autism Month, you can do by:
  • Wearing light blue on Tuesday, or showing off a blue light on your home, office desk, or anywhere else in the community that can help garner attention (safely, that is);
  • Sharing autism-related posts, awareness resources, and photos tagged with #LightItUpBlue, #WorldAutismDay or #WorldAutismMonth;
  • Participating in a local Autism Walk, charity drive, or educational event in your community through Autism Speaks or other non-profit affiliates;
  • Visiting the Autism Speaks’ website to take the pledge and learn more about the campaign, donations, and ways to get involved.
You can find information about World Autism Awareness Day and World Autism Month, as well as a wealth of information, resources, sharable social posts, and more at www.autismspeaks.org/world-autism-month.

A Commitment to the Autism Community

The Perecman Firm, has been serving men, women, and families across New York since 1983, and has become committed to helping the communities which so often trust us during trying times by giving back and showing our support however we can. We’ve also become part of the autism community, and have established the Avonte Oquendo Memorial Scholarship in honor of 14-year-old Avonte Oquendo, an autistic boy who went missing after wandering away from his NYC school in 2013, and who was a major inspiration behind the NY Legislature’s passing of Avonte’s Law. The Scholarship is open to high-achieving students living with autism or a loved one who has been diagnosed with autism. Our New York City personal injury lawyers and entire team at The Perecman Firm, hopes everyone can take the time to learn more about Autism and how they can show their support this month – even the simplest of acts can make a difference!
