Do You Need To Collect Insurance Benefits?
Injuries and illnesses are real threats to workers across the United States, limiting or even preventing their ability to perform their job duties for a significant amount of time. Thousands of workers in New York suffer from injuries that keep them home every year, and the United States Social Security Administration reported that studies show that more than 1 out of every 4 people who are currently 20 years old will become disabled before they turn 67.

What Benefits Can You Receive?
The Social Security Administration provides two different types of disability benefits, and the one you qualify for depends on the severity of your injury or illness.
There are two types of benefits you may be eligible for:
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- The first is known as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which provides stipends to people with low income who are either 65 years old or above, disabled, or blind. They will also provide benefits to children under the age of 18 (or 19 if they are still in High School), that have one or two deceased parents.
Social Security Disability Insurance Program (SSDI or SSDB)
- The second, known as the Social Security Disability Insurance program (SSDI or SSDB), provides benefits to people and their families with a disability or illness that prevents them from returning to work for about 12 months or longer, or who has a disability or illness that will likely result in death.
The Perecman Firm, exclusively handles SSDI / SSDB claims, and can help injured or sick workers determine if they qualify for these benefits. Depending on the age of the injured or sick worker, you may need to meet different qualifications in order to receive SSDI / SSDB benefits. In many cases, the longer you have worked, the likelier it is that you qualify for SSDI / SSDB benefits.
Were You Denied Benefits?
The majority of SSDI / SSDB claims are denied the first time around, regardless of whether or not they meet the necessary qualifications. This is often the result of human error, whether a form was incorrectly filed or the application was missing some paperwork. An experienced Long Island SSD attorney or licensed representative can assist you in filing your application in order to ensure that everything is in order, whether this is your first time applying or if you were previously denied.
